(Almost) all business problems are psychological problems. This includes when you don’t know how or don’t want to sell or promote yourself.
There are business problems that can be solved technically, through a plan, by reallocating resources, or by making some kind of change.
But the most difficult problems are not technical, they are psychological.
They are not related to limitations of the system, but to human limitations.
Let me give you an example.
Let’s imagine a completely hypothetical scenario in which you need to make money.
I know, it’s a very capitalistic and uninteresting topic, but bear with me.
To earn money, you have to sell something. Or work for someone who sells something.
To sell something, you need someone to sell it to.
That means you have to reach your potential customers.
And how do you reach them?
There are two options: pay or get exposure.
Which actually leaves you with one option, because if you had money to pay for advertising, you wouldn’t have started in the first place.
And when it comes to putting yourself out there, boom, problem.
“Well, I don’t know how, I can’t, I’ve never done it before, I don’t want to.”
This isn’t just a matter of skill.
Obviously, you don’t know how if you’ve never done it before.
But that’s not what’s stopping you.
What stops you is in your mind, which is afraid of what people will say, of rejection, of ridicule.
You’re afraid you’ll be laughed at. That you’ll be seen in some way.
Like a capitalist pig, as a friend of mine in the States says.
In reality, however, the problem is in your head, in your ideas and beliefs, in all your past experiences.
You are your biggest obstacle in this story.
And now, you may not know that psychology and psychologists deal with this too, not just with treating problems.
In fact, psychology should deal more with these things, with optimizing human potential, not making as many people as possible feel sickin order to have someone to treat.
It’s still about alleviating suffering, about treating pain.
Only this pain has no diagnosis or DSM classification.
It’s the pain of not being seen and appreciated.
The pain of not being where you should be.
And this pain is much harder to bear in the long run, even if it’s often less obvious.
Think about how your life would change if you sold and sold yourself more.
